Trump Recognizes Record-Breaking Cadets at Coast Guard Academy Graduation

President Donald Trump attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduation in New London, Connecticut, on Wednesday and singled out two senior athletes for special recognition on stage. The president introduced Broock Desta, the academy’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, along with Abby McAllister, the women’s lacrosse program’s all-time leader in assists and points.

Trump noted that the graduating class included many strong athletes and said the 2019 executive order he issued allows academy graduates to pursue professional sports before completing their active-duty service. He described the policy as beneficial for recruiting top talent and improving team performance across the academies.

Desta recorded 234 receptions for 3,487 yards and 29 touchdowns over 36 games while also playing basketball in his final season. McAllister led the lacrosse team in both assists and total points during her career.

Trump also received a Coast Guard football helmet from Cadet Savannah Riera, president of the Class of 2026, during the ceremony.
