Tiger Woods taken into custody after rollover crash in Florida

Tiger Woods was taken into custody following a rollover crash on Jupiter Island in Martin County, Florida, on March 27, 2026, the Martin County Sheriff's Office confirmed at a press conference.

Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods was traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with another car and rolled over onto the driver's side. Budensiek added that Woods exited by crawling out the passenger side.

Investigators noted signs of impairment. Woods registered 0.00 on a breathalyzer but refused a urine test. He was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to the sheriff's office.[1][2]

Sportscaster Jim Gray, a Fox News contributor, described the arrest as the latest chapter in an "ongoing sad story" for Woods during an appearance on Fox News' "Special Report." Gray referenced Woods' history of driving incidents and multiple surgeries.[2]

Woods, a U.S. professional golfer with 15 major championship victories including five Masters titles (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019), resides on Jupiter Island.[3][4]

The incident follows Woods' prior driving-related issues, including a DUI arrest on May 29, 2017, in neighboring Palm Beach County and a single-vehicle rollover crash on February 23, 2021, in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.[5][6]

Woods has made limited starts due to injuries from back, leg and other surgeries. He played five PGA Tour-sanctioned events in 2024: withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational, finishing 60th at the Masters, withdrawing from the PGA Championship and missing cuts at the U.S. Open and Open Championship.[3][7]

The 2026 Masters Tournament begins April 9 at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.[4]
