The shift traces back to the 2024 season finale against Michigan, when a postgame Senior Day ceremony was overshadowed by a physical altercation between the two teams after Wolverines players attempted to plant a flag at midfield. Law enforcement intervened in the scuffle. Head coach Ryan Day said in August that the program deliberated extensively before deciding to relocate the ceremony away from Michigan week, which falls on Nov. 28 this season. Saturday's game also featured the induction of former head coach Jim Tressel into Ohio State's Ring of Honor. Tressel becomes just the third head coach - joining Woody Hayes and Paul Brown - and the 10th individual overall to receive the program's highest honor.
With Senior Day now settled ahead of the Michigan showdown, Ohio State's home finale on Nov. 28 will proceed without the added ceremonial weight that complicated last year's edition. The change gives the Buckeyes one less logistical and emotional variable to manage heading into the rivalry game.
