Giants DT Lawrence Requests Trade Amid Stalled Talks
New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and informed the team he will skip offseason workouts. Contract negotiations with Lawrence have stalled after two years of discussions aimed at securing a deal that matches his value to the franchise. ESPN reported the developments on Monday.
The 28-year-old Lawrence, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, joined the Giants as the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Clemson. He signed a four-year, $87.5 million extension in 2023 and has two seasons remaining, with scheduled salaries of $18.5 million in 2026 and $15.5 million thereafter absent a new agreement.
Lawrence holds career totals of 30.5 sacks, 15 pass breakups and 341 tackles across 109 games. Last season marked his first with all 17 appearances, yielding an interception, 31 tackles and a half-sack.
The Giants would likely seek multiple draft picks in return for the 340-pound lineman, with the NFL Draft approaching.
