Rory McIlroy details proposed menu for Masters Champions Dinner

Rory McIlroy, a professional golfer from Northern Ireland with four major championships, has outlined a detailed menu for the Masters Champions Dinner that he would host as defending champion.[1][2]

The dinner is an annual tradition at Augusta National Golf Club, held on the Tuesday before the Masters Tournament for past winners only. It began in 1952, hosted by Ben Hogan, with the reigning champion selecting the menu.[3][4]

McIlroy's appetizers would include rock shrimp tempura, peach and ricotta flatbread, bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese, and grilled elk sliders with caramelized onion jam and roasted garlic aioli.[1][2]

The first course features yellowfin tuna carpaccio, drawn from a signature dish at Le Bernardin, a New York restaurant favored by McIlroy and his wife. He described the dates as inspired by his mother's recipe and limited elk to appetizers after receiving a large shipment.[1][2]

Main course options are wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, served with Irish champ potatoes, Brussels sprouts and crispy Vidalia onion rings. McIlroy recalled eating champ "by the bowlful" as a child.[1][2]

Dessert would be sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce, a personal favorite.[1][2]

Wine pairings from Augusta National's cellar include 2022 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet (prices exceeding $2,000 per bottle), 2019 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon and 1990 Château Lafite Rothschild (averaging at least $1,200 per bottle).[1][5]

McIlroy, winner of the 2011 U.S. Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 PGA Championship and 2014 Open Championship, requires a Masters victory to join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as a career Grand Slam holder.[2][6]
