Gunther accuses Cody Rhodes of making his SmackDown arrival about himself ‘just like a typical American’
Gunther rejects Cody Rhodes contract demand on SmackDown
During the May 15 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Gunther confronted Cody Rhodes after Paul Heyman arranged a title match for the Austrian wrestler against Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.
SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis required both men to sign a contract in the ring. Rhodes prepared the table and chairs, then called for Gunther to appear and complete the paperwork. Gunther refused, stating that Rhodes had interfered with his plans and made the situation about himself.
Royce Keys entered the segment and offered to sign the contract in Gunther’s place. Gunther took the pen away. Aldis ruled that Gunther had forfeited his guaranteed opportunity and scheduled a match between Gunther and Keys for later in the broadcast.
With Solo Sikoa at ringside, Gunther defeated Keys after a referee distraction and a powerbomb. Rhodes then attacked Gunther from behind as the segment ended.
